I profondi cambiamenti nella struttura socio-demografica della popolazione italiana, correlati ad un’evoluzione veritiginosa dell’innovazione scientifica e tecnologica, determinano un impatto fondamentale sull’organizzazione della sanità. Alla domanda crescente di servizi non sempre corrisponde un analogo aumento dell’offerta e la ricerca di nuovi equilibri s’impone al fine d’assicurare il rispetto di quel diritto alla salute che la Costituzione Italiana sancisce all’art. 32. In tale contesto, la rivoluzione nelle comunicazioni e le tecnologie mobili intervengono nella trasformazione del ruolo dei pazienti che, forti dell’accesso libero all’informazione e delle competenze generate dall’esperienza della malattia, acquisiscono nuove pratiche di participazione al percorso individuale e collettivo nell’universo della sanità.

The profound changes in the social and demographic structure of the Italian population, related to a changeable evolution of scientific and technological innovation, have resulted in a fundamental impact on the organisation of health care. The growing demand for services does not always correspond to a similar increase in supply and the search for new balances centres around the goal of ensuring the respect of the right to health, which the Italian Constitution ratifies in art. 32. In this context, the revolution in communications and mobile technologies influences the transformation of the role of patients that, armed with their entitlement to free access to information and equipped with the skills resulting from their experience of illness, assume new methods of participation in the individual and collective path through the universe of health care.
