In questo testo, l’Autore ci parla soprattutto di miti e racconti di origine sumera,tradotti, a partire dalla fine del 1800, da antichissime tavolette ritrovate nellaterra di Mesopotamia.La civiltà sumera, risalente al V - IV millennio prima dell’era cristiana, fu davveroeccezionale per la sua organizzazione: fondata, originariamente, sullecittà-stato, diede un’irrigazione capillare alle terre situate fra i fiumi Tigri ed Eufrate, da cui scaturì un’agricoltura ricca e fiorente, che permise il prosperaredi re, sacerdoti ed eroi davvero potenti.Nelle città – di Ur, Uruk, Kish, Lagash, eccetera – fu sconfitta la povertà e, graziealla prosperità delle attività economiche, fu possibile lo sviluppo rigogliosodelle condizioni di vita pubbliche e private.Furono “inventate”, per la prima volta nella storia dell’uomo, la forma di convivenzacittadina, l’idea di regalità come forma dello stato, la scrittura, la scuola,la contabilità ed il bilancio, per la misurazione dei prodotti agricoli, degliscambi economici e delle offerte religiose.La vera sorpresa dei testi a cui l’Autore fa riferimento è l’attenzione in essi dedicataalla problematica del lavoro, dandone una chiave di lettura non soltantomitico-religiosa, ma anche sociale e culturale, ridestando a nuova vita una civiltàesemplare fino ai giorni nostri.Nel trattare l’argomento, l’autore ha personalizzato la lettura con riferimentialla mitologia classica e citazioni di poesie moderne, che trasmettono l’emozionedi trovarsi di fronte ad una testimonianza davvero unica della storiadell’uomo.

In this text, the Author talks about myths and legends of the Sumerian civilization,that have been translated since the end of the 19th century from very oldtables found in Mesopotamia.The Sumerian civilization, that dates back to the 5th - 4th millennium prior toChristian Era, has been outstanding for its organization: the civilization originallyfounded on a city-state basis, created a capillary irrigation system, extendedto all lands located between the rivers Tigris and Euphrates, originating arich and flourishing agriculture that engendered a remarkable number of verypowerful kings, priests and heroes.In cities like Ur, Uruk, Kish, Lagash, etc… poverty was eradicated and, thanksto the prosperity of economical activities, private and public conditions of lifeenjoyed a blooming development.For the first time in the history of human kind, the city cohabitation systemand the idea of a State based on regality was “invented”, as well as writing,school, accounting and budget concept for the evaluation of agricultural products,commercial trades and religious contributions.What is really astonishing in the above mentioned texts, is the great importancegiven to labour issue. All topics related to labour are treated not only undera mythical-religious point of view but also under the social and cultural aspect;the result is an exemplary civilization still up to date nowadays.In his argumentation, the Author has given a personal interpretation withreferences to classical mythology as well as to modern poetry, that conveysthe great emotion of being faced to such a unique testimony of the history ofhuman kind.
