E’ aggiornato il quadro delle richieste presentate all’INAIL da lavoratori che intendano usufruire dei benefici previdenziali concessi agli esposti all’amianto, riferendo sulla situazione al 31 dicembre 1998. Dall’esame emerge una certa riduzione dell’incremento della casistica rispetto agli anni 1996-97, riduzione che riguarda la maggior parte delle regioni e dei comparti produttivi. Viene inoltre riferito del dibattito intervenuto, all’interno e al di fuori della Conferenza Nazionale sull’Amianto del marzo 1999, in merito ai criteri di individuazione delle esposizioni e, segnatamente, in merito al limite di soglia da utilizzare. Nel complesso, infatti, non appare sostenibile il non uso del limite, mentre è aperto il confronto su quale limite utilizzare. Sembrano, peraltro, da non trascure le indicazioni reperibili nella normativa nazionale ed europea. E’ questo il modus operandi adottato dall’INAIL.

This paper represents an up grade (Dec 31, 1998) of the situation regarding the number of applicant workers applying for pension benefits because of their past exposure to asbestos. On the whole, a certain decrease in the generally increasing trend of cases, compared to the past years 1996-1997, is observed. Besides, we also discuss about the public debate that took place during 1999, within and outside the First National Asbestos Conference (Rome, March 1999) and concerning the criteria used to define asbestos exposure and, specifically, the threshold limit value to be used. Italian experts agreed about the fact that we can’t avoid using a limit value but the discussion is still open about which one to use. So far, they all agreed to continue trusting the indications given by the National and European laws, and this is therefore the method still followed by INAIL.
