Nessuno oggi mette in dubbio - tra privati cittadini e tra addetti ai lavori delle Aziende - che la relazione con le nuove tecnologie e con il web in particolare costituisca uno degli ambiti di maggior trasformazione culturale, economica e sociale. Ciascuno ne trae evidenza in parte dall’esperienza d’uso (propria o di amici, parenti, conoscenti più esperti) e molto anche dalle notizie e storie che i mezzi di comunicazione propongono, a loro volta alimentati dall’inesausta ricerca di novità con cui tenere desta la nostra attenzione. Ma una serie di luoghi comuni rischia di aumentare la distanza tra i “nativi digitali” e i “nativi ideologici”. Occorre uscire da questi schematismi abituandoci tutti a considerare Internet per quello che è: non un mondo virtuale distinto dalla concretezza del quotidiano ma “ il versante digitale della vita, dell’economia, della società”.

These days, neither private citizens nor workplace operators question the fact that new technologies and the web in particular, represent one of the major areas of cultural, economic and social transformation. Everyone draws their conclusions on the basis of specific uses (their own or that of friends, relatives or experts) and, to a large extent, on what they have heard in the news and read in newspaper stories (which in turn are fuelled by an indefatigable quest for scoops to grab our attention). However, a number of commonplaces risk widening the gap between “digital natives” and “ideological natives”. We all need to move beyond these fixed mindsets and consider the internet for what it actually is, namely, not a virtual world set apart from the real one of everyday occurrences, but rather “the digital side of life, economics and society”.
