Il rapporto fra sistema di sicurezza sociale e costo del lavoro viene analizzato con particolare riguardo alla disoccupazione emergente a causa dell'abbandono di attività lavorative troppo onerose rispetto al valore di mercato del prodotto finale. Concorrenza con i Paesi terzi e concorrenza con le macchine (o "disoccupazione tecnologica") sono quindi i principali problemi che richiedono un cambiamento complessivo nella logica dei finanziamenti della solidarietà, in modo da fruire delle conquiste del mercato globale senza perdere il bene lavoro.

The relationship between social security systems and labor costs is analysed with special reference to unemployment resulting from the abandonment of work that is exceedingly hard with respect to the market value of the final product it produces. Competition with third countries and competition with machines (or "technological unemployment") are therefore the main problems that require a comprehensive rethinking of the way in which solidarity financing is made, in order to benefit from global market advantages without causing the loss of jobs.
