Il settore dell’industria farmaceutica, in Italia, rappresenta appena lo 0,2% di tutte le posizioni assicurative dell’Inail e assorbe il 2,5% degli addetti dell’Industria e Servizi (circa 640 aziende e oltre 43000 addetti). Pur componendosi di poche aziende, per lo più di grandi dimensioni (in media67 addetti per azienda), costituisce, tuttavia, un settore industriale di nicchia trai più importanti. Il presente lavoro si propone di descrivere in dettaglio le complesse fasi della filiera produttiva dalla preparazione dei principi farmaceutici attivi al confezionamento del prodotto nella sua forma finita (solida, semisolida e liquida) e di analizzare i rischi per la salute degli operatori che caratterizzano in modo specifico tali fasi di lavorazione. Dall’analisi del fenomeno infortunistico, relativo al quinquennio 2006-2010, risulta che gli infortuni nelle industrie farmaceutiche rappresentano lo 0,14% degli eventi registrati per l’Industria e Servizi, con 995denunce nel 2010, mostrando una rischiosità espressa in termini di incidenza infortunistica più bassa rispetto alla media. Per quanto riguarda le malattie professionali il loro numero è trascurabile: si tratta di circa 30 malattie denunciate l’anno, il cui andamento e consistenza non sono stati descritti in termini statistici. I fenomeni infortunistico e tecnopatico vengono interpretati e discussi alla luce sia delle misure di prevenzione e protezione da adottare in questo specifico settore che dei risultati, pubblicati in letteratura, della ricerca epidemiologica dedicata.

In Italy, pharmaceutical industry is represented by only 0,2% of the total numberof INAIL (Italian Workers’ Compensation Authority) policyholders, involving2,5% of people employed in the industrial and tertiary fields (about 640 enterpriseswith more than 43000 workers). Despite of the low number of operating companies, mostly big ones (an averageof 67 employees for each enterprise), yet pharmaceutics represents one of themost important niche industrial sectors. This paper means to describe in detail the complex phases of the entire pharmaceuticalproduction process, starting from preparation of active principles andgoing up to packaging of drugs in their ultimate form (solid, semi-solid or liquid),and to analyze the specific occupational hazards characterizing each phase.The survey upon accidents’ trend, during the half-decade 2006 - 2010, points outthat accidents occurred in pharmaceutical industries correspond to 0,14% of theevents registered for industrial and tertiary activities on the whole (995 reports in2010), showing a riskiness level, expressed as accidents’ incidence, lower thanthe average one. With regard to occupational diseases, its number is negligible:about 30 cases reported every year. From the statistical point of view, the trendand relevancy of the above mentioned diseases haven’t been described. The phenomena of work-related accidents and diseases are interpreted and discussed,in the light of the preventive and protective measures to be implementedin this sector, as well as of the outcomes of the epidemiological researches concerningpharmaceutical industry, available in literature.
