Con il perdurare della crisi economica guadagnano terreno in campo sociologico teorie apocalittiche del mutamento sociale che prefigurano una società insicura e priva di certezze, in cui il mondo del lavoro diventa ad ogni livello fragile e frammentato. Nel corso dell’articolo verranno messe alla prova queste teorie traducendo alcune delle previsioni di queste teorie in ipotesi empiricamente verificabili, utilizzando dati Eurostat e OCSE sulle forze lavoro disponibili on-line a chiunque. Le analisi proposte e la rassegna della letteratura scientifica mostrano come la complessità dei cambiamenti nel mercato del lavoro rifugga spiegazioni semplicistiche e apocalittiche e getta una luce sulle nuove disuguaglianze emergenti su cui sono sempre più urgenti interventi di policy.

With the continued economic crisis the apocalyptical theories about social changegain ground in the sociological fields. Such theories foreshadow an insecuresociety without certainties, where the labour market becomes fragile and fragmented.In this article we test these theories by translating some of the forecastsinto empirically verifiable hypothesis, using Eurostat and OCSE online data.The proposed analyses and the review of scientific literature show how the complexityof changes in the labour market avoids simplistic and apocalypticalexplanations and enlightens new rising inequalities, requiring more and moreurgent policy interventions.
