“La formula in questione, detta impropriamente del Gabrielli, risale al 1894 ed all’oftalmologo e storico della medicina Hugo Magnus…” partendo da questa asserzione ritrovata su un testo, l’autore ha ricostruito storicamente, andando alle fonti originarie, con una ricerca tutta in rete, lo sviluppo della cosiddetta formula Gabrielli al fine di verificare la veridicità di tale affermazione. Con sorpresa si è imbattuto in diverse “formulazioni”, di diversi autori (Magnus 1894, Groenouw 1896, Gabrielli 1920, Balthazard 1923), peraltro fatto segnalato oltre cinquanta anni or sono ma che forse, in quanto comparso non su di una rivista di medicina legale ma “oculistica” era passato sotto silenzio. L’esame dei lavori originali ha consentito di potere affermare che, forse, gli autori erano arrivati a quelle formulazioni ciascuno per proprio conto come si evince dalla loro spiegazione, ciononostante si ritiene che sarebbe più opportuno chiamare la formula Gabrielli come formula Groenouw in quanto detto autore arrivò a quella specifica formulazione alla fine dell’ottocento, modificando un idea del Magnus, oltre venti anni prima della proposta del Gabrielli.

With surprise it came across several “formulations” of various authors (Magnus, 1894, 1896 Groenouw, Gabrielli 1920, Balthazard 1923), also reported more than fifty years ago, but perhaps not as appeared on a medical journal legal but “on a medical journal ophthalmology was passed over in silence. An analysis of the original allowed to affirm that, perhaps, the authors arrived at these formulas each for its own account as shown by their explanation, however it is believed that it would be more appropriate to call the formula as a formula Gabrielli, Groenouw, because the author came to that specific formulation at the end of the nineteenth century, changing an idea of Magnus, over twenty years before the proposal of Gabrielli.
